Kimberley Conservation News

The past month has seen the Kimberley Western Australia in the news quite a bit…unfortunately it has been for all the wrong reasons.

Approximately 4 weeks ago, a oil spill was discovered. The leak is occurring approximately 250 kilometers from the coast and is proving to be a unmeasurable threat to the marine life in this pristine region.

To say that we are concerned about the oil slick and it’s potential impact  would be a massive understatement!

Have a look at what conservation experts are saying about the leak, the potential result of the region and what they are planning to do about it.

The Leeuwin Current – A Major Influence on WA Marine Life

Mining company PTTEP Australasia announce the leak just over a month ago and to date the lead continues. The oil leak is coming from an offshore rig at the Montara development. This development is only 150km south-east of the Ashmore Reef. Way too close to home as far as I am concerned.

Let’s hope that they find a way to stop the oil from continuing to spill into the ocean SOON.
