Lost In Australia! A Broome Walkabout Story
You would know by now that I love writing about the Kimberley, but perhaps you didn’t know that I also enjoy reading about it. The other day I was searching around for some real life experiences as inspiration to write a post for the blog.
Anyways, I came across a post that rocked. It is well written with plenty of personal Broome walkabout experiences shared. (There is a link below to the source post if you’d like to check it out for yourself)
Here is a brief introduction from the post;
“BROOME- 140 kms N of Port Smith and 221 kms SW of Derby. Town Population 13717. However about 100000 tourists visit each year.”
Yes you read that right…..Broome has around 100,000 visitors every single year! WOW
As I mentioned, the author shares their Broome experience in the source post. What gets me when reading it, is how much was enjoyed during the course of just a single day. With visits to Cable Beach, Gantheaume Point and China Town just to mention some the day sounds both active and enjoyable. For me there is a real tone of relaxation as you take in the authors perspective….and after all isn’t relaxation on of the main aims of a holiday in Australia.
Here is another little excerpt from the post that I particularly enjoyed. In fact it gave me a little giggle but I won’t give it away telling you why. Here is the extract;
“This morning we drove into Broome and had a look around Chinatown in the daylight. From what we can remember it has been really upgraded, with wider pavements, centre road angle parking and plants.
Had my haircut again by a young pommy guy who is travelling around Australia and has stopped off in Broome to earn some extra cash. Had a cup of coffee and was entertained by a great guitar and vocals by a local, looked at the bead shop etc etc.”
While a haircut by a travelling tourist may sound strange to some, if you are relaxed enough and in truly on ‘Broome Time’ then this would feel totally normal. I am sure those of you who have made a stop off in Broome at any stage know what I am getting at.
A trip in Australia’s pearl, Broome, is a personal experience that will stay with you for a life time.
